Considering you will spend 5 of 7 days at your place of employment, you better make sure you’re happy there.
We all get annoyed with our jobs from time to time. If you slide into a funk, you should be able to easily pull yourself out of the pits. Start by considering how lucky you are to actually have a job right now. So many Americans have been laid off from long-time, salaried jobs and are now struggling to maintain their lifestyles. Students that are just starting out in the professional world are having a hard time trying to find ANY job to help them pay off the astronomical student loan bills.
When co-workers become intolerable, it always pays to talk it through. You can go to your superior directly with an issue, if you are uncomfortable dealing with co-workers yourself. Or, if you prefer a more direct line of communication, be polite and level-headed when explaining to James that his toe nail clipping during phone conferences is causing you a major distraction. Don’t let others make your day job dreadful. If all else fails, see what you can do with distancing yourself from said co-worker.
Being good at your job is obviously going to make you feel satisfied, useful and necessary to the company. Know your goals, and if you aren’t sure, reach out for assistance. Your boss will be nothing but glad to see your proactive attitude. Also, don’t be down on yourself when something goes awry. Being able to step back, analyze the situation and figure how it can be avoided in the future will let your co-workers know that you are mature enough to handle criticisms of even the most monstrous of failures.
Also, keep yourself challenged by acquiring new responsibilities. Not only will your professional skills expand, but you’ll be less likely to become bored. Picking up some extra duties to lighten others’ workloads will be an appreciated gesture.
